Budding to Grow (Early 2020 Game Jam)

23 / 03 / 20

Created from the game jam theme ‘growth’, Budding to Grow puts the player in control of a young plant and tasks them with managing its needs in order to grow as tall as possible.

Budding to Grow was created in 48 hours for another of Bournemouth University’s game jams. This time, the theme was ‘growth’, and so I immediately went to thoughts of nature and the growth of a plant. I thought it could be fun to work on a slightly more technical game than last time (Soul’s Flight), and so while I opted for a mobile-style game, I wanted to create a game centred around an intricate balancing act. Similarly to last time, this game is another endless adventure where the only goal is to beat your own scores!

Yet again I competed solo in this game jam, and again I decided to create everything you see and hear in the game myself! I made use of the Construct 2 engine for this project, as it is probably the one that I am the most comfortable with at this point in time. This game jam took place during 11th-13th March 2020.

The uploaded version of Budding to Grow features a menu and restart system (along with a few other minor tweaks) that I added after the event, just so it works a bit more smoothly!

I hope you enjoy the game!
